Counter tops were installed today and they look great! It is hard to show you all the detail of the cool veins of color in the granite...but I tried! We can now finish off the kitchen entirely buy wrapping the column. After that, a few little touch ups and it goes on the market next Monday! Anyone want to buy a cute house in Portland??

From mud pit to putting green

This is the front yard yesterday...formerly a mud pit now a dry desert of weeds...

This is what I did today...especially fun since it was delivered at 6am this morning. So basically I have been lugging these rolls of sod from the crates to the wheelbarrow then unloading them and rolling them out for the last 6 or 7 hours...by...myself...

Doesn't it look pretty?? all 1300 feet of it.... I am exhausted!! Time for some wine :-)

Floors are dry

This is the how the floors looked when we first got the house...
They looked very beat up after we took off the sticky tiles and stripped the glue from underneath them....

Here we had just finished sanding them...

They are now stained and waiting to dry enough to put on the clear poly coat...but I think they turned out pretty good....

We had the gravel delivered today and I had to rake it all out...

Finally as promised...here is the front door mounted and the hardware...

The front door I salvaged from the Habitat re-store and stripped down and re finished, I forgot to take a picture of the door handle hardware but I will put a picture up of the finished project when we put it on the house I promise!

kitchen updates

Just a quick flash back to how horrible and disgusting the kitchen once was when we first bought it.....

As we cleaned it up.....

I have finished mudding and sanding all the drywall around the new window as well as other walls and it is primed and ready for paint

I just layed tile down (not something I recommend doing by yourself like I did, the mortar dries too fast for one person to keep up with!!) in the bathroom and need to grout it. Here is a picture of what the tiles look like

I know it is hard to tell the color with my flash and the light at night but wanted to give you an idea of it. It is a blueish green color, actually it is the same color we put in our kitchen in our house

Bath and Tub updates

The claw foot tub is ready to be put in to the bathroom. It is SO cute, a 41/2 footer with chrome feet.

(Don't mind the bubble wrap between the feet and the tub)

The lights we put out on the porches and below the lumber to build the deck

The bathroom wainscoting is up, and primed and the bathroom is ready for paint color and then we can tile!

Not bad considering it used to look likes THIS! (Warning ugly bathroom below!)

The trims and underneath the over hangs have now been painted the cream color and you can see where we have scraped and primed a bunch of spots to get it ready for the green color going onto the body of the house

For some odd reason there were 2, yes TWO front doors next to each other so we took one out and you can see where we replaced the siding to cover over the old door frame. I have bought a new (well not new but salvaged like in our house) front door and stripped it down and will be sanding it down and staining it soon to put it up.

This is the side door that faces our house accross the street and it enters into the kitchen. I have just managed to get a first coat of paint on it so far.

We put new wider exterior trims around all the windows (the little window is the outside of the new bathroom window) Now we can paint the outside!
Finally finished the whole roof. I am pretty proud I did almost the whole thing myself!!

I can't wait to get some new color on this ugly house...it will be like night and day. It rained on us all yesterday as I finished the corner shingles and of course I wake up to SUN this morning...oh well now I can paint the trims!

The FUNNEST part was carrying all the bundles of singles up the ladder on to the roof...our poor backs at this point!!

they are an architectural shingle so have a texture to them, and need a bit of a warmer day to fully lay down but they are turning out pretty nice...

We put a new window into the side of the house facing ours to open it up and give it more light and more detail on the outside. Now all it needs is a frame and it will look great when we paint the house!
If you look really close in the background you can actually see Nate's truck and our house across the street!

Kitchen Updates

This is what the kitchen looked like when we bought it...yes I also wondered how someone could live like that as well!!

Looking into the living room... We took down the half wall so we can build a little eating bar area from the living room and open up the floor plan a little.

This is what the kitchen looks like now...we have ordered the cabinets and are waiting for them to arrive.

A few changes...

we found nice oak floors underneath the sticky linoleum tiles so we are going to refinish them

we tore down the crappy shed in the back and cleaned up the back yard (you can see where it was attached to the house)
the house has been power washed and scrapped down for a new paint job
testing out some color options...hard to capture the true colors on film... it is much greener in person
this was the bathroom when we bought the house

the bathroom has been gutted out completely now and we are in the process of refinishing a 41/2 foot claw foot tub for the renovation. You can also see that we uncovered part of a bigger window under the tile wall so we will be replacing that window to make it bigger as well.

junk junk and more junk

junk piling up as we took it out of the house and waited for the dumpster to be delivered

since we bought the house while it was in foreclosure, the previous owners had just left and all of their junk was still in the house. We ended up filling up a 30 yard dumpster as well as about 10 more yards of yard debris in another load. Here are some pictures of the junk we literally shoveled out of the house!!
